Dallas Roofing FAQs

  • Hail damage isn't always obvious. While you might see dented gutters or downspouts from the ground, roof damage often looks like "bruises" or dark spots where granules have been knocked off the shingles. If your neighbors are getting inspections, it is highly likely your home was affected too. We offer free, honest inspections to give you a clear answer.

  • First, ensure your family is safe. Once the storm passes, walk around the perimeter of your home to look for fallen debris or visible damage. Do not climb on the roof yourself. If you suspect damage or see a leak, call a professional roofer immediately to tarp the area and prevent interior water damage.

  • Generally, insurance companies cannot raise your individual rates for filing a claim related to an "Act of God," such as a hail storm or tornado. However, rates for an entire zip code may rise after a catastrophic event regardless of whether you file a claim. It is usually in your best interest to file if you have legitimate damage.

  • Most insurance policies in Texas allow you to file a claim up to one year after the date of loss (the storm date). However, some policies have shorter windows, and waiting too long can lead to denied claims if the damage worsens over time. We recommend getting an inspection within 30 days of a storm.

  • For Dallas homeowners, we often recommend architectural asphalt shingles with high solar reflectance or metal roofing. Metal roofs are incredible at reflecting UV rays, keeping your attic cooler. If you prefer the look of shingles, brands like Owens Corning and GAF offer "Cool Series" shingles designed specifically to reduce heat absorption.

  • Class 4 Impact Resistant (IR) shingles are designed to withstand severe hail without cracking. They are thicker and more durable than standard shingles. In Dallas, installing Class 4 shingles can often qualify you for a significant discount on your homeowner's insurance premium—sometimes up to 20-30%.

  • Metal roofing offers superior longevity (50+ years) and energy efficiency compared to asphalt (20-25 years). It stands up better to high winds and hail. However, asphalt is more affordable upfront. We can help you weigh the cost-benefit ratio based on how long you plan to stay in your home.

  • Yes. Proper ventilation is critical in Texas. Without it, heat gets trapped in your attic, baking your shingles from the underside and driving up your AC bills. We assess your intake (soffit) and exhaust (ridge vents/turbines) to ensure your roof "breathes" properly.

  • For an average-sized home in the Dallas Metroplex (approx. 2,500 sq ft), a full replacement usually takes 1 to 2 days. We arrive early, protect your property, strip the old roof, install the new system, and clean up—all efficiently to minimize disruption to your life.

  • You do not need to be inside the house, but we recommend being available by phone. We do ask that you park your cars in the street so our trucks have access to the driveway and so your vehicles are safe from falling debris during the tear-off process.

  • We use tarps to cover bushes, flower beds, and pools to catch falling nails or old shingles. After the job, we run powerful magnetic sweeps over your yard and driveway to ensure no nails are left behind.

  • It is common to find some rotten decking in older Dallas homes. If we find rot, we stop, document it with photos, and inform you immediately. We replace the bad wood to ensure your new shingles have a solid foundation. We never cover up rot.

  • As a Veteran-Owned business, Lone Ranger Roofing operates on military core values: Integrity, Service, and Excellence. We don’t cut corners, and we don’t use high-pressure sales tactics. We show up when we say we will, and we stand behind our work.

  • Yes! We understand a new roof is a major investment. We partner with Hearth and other lenders to offer flexible financing plans, allowing you to break the cost into manageable monthly payments.

  • Absolutely. Texas does not require a state license for roofers (which is why there are so many bad actors), but we operate professionally. We carry General Liability insurance to protect your home and Workers' Compensation to protect our crew. We are happy to provide proof of insurance before we start.
